The secret of the Dream
Dreaming is universal and one of the most fascinating experiences of the mind.
It speaks a wonderful language of its own. Each dream is unique as unique as the individual. You personally are the creator of your dream; it is the ‘self talking to the self'.
PET scans carried out of sleeping people have revealed increased activity in several brain areas, especially the amygdala (a structure in the forebrain that is an important component of the limbic system). The limbic system which includes the amygdala, hippocampus, septum and basal ganglia is in turn responsible and helps to regulates emotion and memory as well a some aspects of movement.
To dream is a wonderful gift; it is the gift of learning to understand ourselves and make sense of situations when we are baffled and perplexed, even if we are unconscious of our problem as we rush through our busy lives.
It is the brains way of coping with any unexpressed emotional problems we are facing. Dreaming has been referred to as‘ The royal road to the unconscious' Reflecting back on the fact that a dream speaks its own language, we have to make sense of the symbolism and metaphors. We can take the royal road and make remarkable discoveries into our own unconscious feeling and emotions or we can choose to remain ignorant of our true selves, as our psyche (our self, our soul) remains in turmoil.
